The Arizona is the sandal most people mean when they say Birkenstock — two adjustable straps, a contoured cork footbed, and a shape that has stayed essentially unchanged since 1973.

The footbed is what the brand is built on. Cork and latex mould to the shape of your foot over the first few weeks of wear, with a raised arch and a deep heel cup that support rather than flatten. It's why the Arizona gets worn for whole days at a time — beach, city, holiday — where most flat sandals give up after a couple of hours.
