UGREEN AX900 WiFi 6 USB Adapter

What it does

A USB stick that gives a desktop or laptop WiFi 6, either because the machine has no wireless card or because the one it has is old and slow. It's roughly the size of a thumb, so it can stay plugged in permanently without blocking the neighbouring USB ports.

Speed

Dual band: up to 600Mbps on 5GHz and 287Mbps on 2.4GHz. UGREEN's own testing puts a 10GB transfer at around three minutes, roughly 30% faster than the older AC600 generation. The adapter is aimed at home connections up to 300Mbps — beyond that, it becomes the bottleneck rather than the fix.

Why WiFi 6 matters here

The useful part isn't peak speed, it's behaviour under load. OFDMA and MU-MIMO let the adapter share airtime properly when several devices are on the same network, beamforming directs the signal rather than broadcasting it in all directions, and TWT reduces power draw. In practice that means fewer stalls when someone else in the house starts streaming.

Security covers WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK and mixed WPA/WPA2 modes.

Setup

Drivers for Windows 10 and 11 are built in — no disc, no download. Plug it in, follow the prompts, done.

Also works as a hotspot

AP mode turns the machine into a WiFi hotspot other devices can connect through. Windows 10 or later only, and the adapter needs to be within about 9 metres of the router.

Important — check before ordering

This adapter works with Windows 10 and 11 on x86/x64 processors only. It does not support macOS, Linux, ARM-based Windows machines, or televisions and streaming boxes. There is no workaround; the drivers simply don't exist for those systems.
