Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda edition: out 29 October. What goes on sale and where to buy it
Nintendo has revealed the first limited edition Switch 2. The Triforce-themed hardware marks forty years of The Legend of Zelda and goes on sale on 29 October 2026, a week before the Ocarina of Time remake.
Hardware out 29 October 2026, the game on 5 November
Three separate products go on sale: console, controller and carrying case
No game is included with the console, despite Ocarina of Time arriving days later
No UK price or availability date has been announced
Limited Nintendo editions clear within hours, so watching for restocks is worth the effort
What exactly goes on sale
These are three separately sold products, plus a game a week later. Worth separating, because it is easy to assume it is one bundle.
The console
Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition, out 29 October.
Standard hardware in a special finish. The Triforce motif appears in three places: on the back of the console, on the dock and on both Joy-Con 2 controllers. Black and gold dominate, while the Joy-Con themselves are green and gold with their own Triforce pattern.
The internals are identical to the standard version. The difference is purely cosmetic.
The controller
Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller in the matching anniversary finish, out 29 October.
Sold separately rather than bundled with the console. That matters, because these are two independent purchases.
The controller is the most overlooked item in the coverage, but it goes just as fast as the console, because owners of the standard Switch 2 buy it too.
The case
Carrying case with screen protector, also in the anniversary finish and also from 29 October.
The cheapest of the three and the only one you can buy for hardware you already own.
The game
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the remake, out 5 November 2026.
Sold separately, and this is what disappointed most people. Nintendo confirmed outright that no game is included with the console, even though the remake lands a week later. Anyone wanting both is looking at two purchases.
What it is likely to cost
No UK price has been announced, nor an availability date for this market.
What is established: the Switch 2 went up in price across Europe at the start of September. Adding a modest premium for the limited edition puts the console slightly above the current standard price. That is an estimate rather than a listed figure.
The controller and the game come on top.
Why speed matters
Limited Nintendo editions have form, and the pattern has repeated for years. The hardware clears within hours of pre-orders opening, returns in irregular restocks for a few weeks, and then stops returning altogether, leaving only the resale market at prices well above list.
This edition adds another factor. The hardware lands a week before the game, so two peaks of interest overlap, and some buyers will only reach for the console when Ocarina of Time arrives.
In practice: if you want this version, launch week is the only reliable window.
Where to buy in the UK
Nintendo has not confirmed UK distribution of this edition, but Switch 2 consoles, controllers and accessories are available from the retailers below. It is worth watching several at once, because restocks of limited editions do not reach every retailer on the same day.
Buying through Soleback returns part of the order value. The click has to be the last one before the shop, and cashback clears once the returns window closes.
If you are after deals on gaming hardware and more, it is worth checking our promotions section too.
How to improve your odds
Set up stock alerts. Most retailers here let you register for a notification on an out-of-stock item. That works better than checking manually several times a day.
Watch several shops at once. Restocks do not reach every chain on the same day, and hardware occasionally appears at a smaller retailer hours earlier.
Have your account and delivery details ready. On hardware that clears in minutes, filling in forms mid-purchase decides the outcome.
Do not buy on the resale market straight away. Resale prices peak on launch day and usually settle after restocks arrive.
Consider the standard version. If you want to play rather than collect, the regular Switch 2 gives you identical hardware for less and is available now.
What to play in the meantime
Two titles from the same series work well while you wait, both available now and without any limits.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, each in the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, meaning upgraded for the new console.
If you already own either on the original Switch, you can buy an upgrade pack rather than the full version, which is a noticeably cheaper route to the same improvements.
FAQ
When does the Zelda edition Switch 2 come out?
29 October 2026. The controller and case in the matching finish arrive the same day.
Is a game included?
No. Nintendo confirmed the console ships without a title, even though the Ocarina of Time remake follows a week later.
How many products go on sale?
Three hardware items, meaning the console, the Pro Controller and the case with screen protector, plus the game on 5 November. All sold separately.
What will it cost in the UK?
No price has been announced. The Switch 2 rose in price across Europe at the start of September, and the limited edition should sit slightly above the standard.
How does it differ from a standard Switch 2?
Cosmetically only. The Triforce motif on the back, the dock and both Joy-Con. The internals are identical.
When does the Ocarina of Time remake arrive?
5 November 2026, a week after the hardware. Sold separately.
In summary
Three hardware products and a game a week later, all sold separately. Anyone wanting the lot should budget for three or four purchases, not one.
The problem will not be price but availability. Treat launch week as the only reliable window, set alerts at several retailers and have your account ready in advance.
And if playing is all you want, the standard Switch 2 does exactly the same job and can be bought without the chase.
