PlayStation unveiled the Prism Collection on 28 October 2026: three transparent colours of the DualSense wireless controller (Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray) plus matching console covers for the PS5. Pre-orders open on 10 November 2026 and the launch starts on 4 February 2027. The UK is on Sony's pre-order list, with a recommended price of £74.99 for the controller and £64.99 for the cover. As of 30 October 2026 you cannot buy any of it yet, and this piece says plainly what is still unconfirmed.

The key points at a glance

  • What it is: a PS5 accessory range, meaning the DualSense wireless controller and replaceable console covers, each in three colours

  • Colours: Flare Orange (orange), Emerald Green (deep green), Graphite Gray (cool, smoky grey)

  • Look: glossy, transparent shell with the electronics partly visible, and a metallic panel in the middle of the controller

  • Pre-order: from 10 November 2026 at 10:00 local time, through the PlayStation store in ten European countries including the UK

  • Launch: from 4 February 2027, with differences between countries

  • UK price (Sony RRP): £74.99 for the controller, £64.99 for the cover

  • Where to buy: PlayStation Direct and participating retailers for controllers, with covers mainly through PlayStation itself

  • The catch: Sony says only that the covers are transparent, and the controller reportedly keeps black sticks like the standard model

What PlayStation actually announced

The Prism Collection is two kinds of product. The first is a DualSense controller in a transparent shell. The second is a set of covers for the PS5, the replaceable outer panels of the console you may already own. You are not getting a new console, only a new look for the same one.

The common thread is high gloss and transparent plastic that shows some of the electronics. Sony pairs this with a metallic finish in the centre of the controller.

We found no changes to the controller's features in the official post or in the coverage we read. One outlet notes that Sony has not announced a software update requirement for the Prism controllers. In other words, this is a change of appearance, not of capability.

Three colours: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray

  • Flare Orange: a bold, intense orange that picks up a slightly pink tint wherever the transparent layers overlap

  • Emerald Green: a deep green with a silky outer finish, closer to a hunter green than to a bright one

  • Graphite Gray: the most restrained of the three, a cool storm grey with the same gloss as the others

According to one media description, the transparency of the Graphite Gray controller shows mainly at the sides and the back, while the middle section provides the contrast. Treat that as a description of the look, not a technical specification, because press photos do not always show how the plastic behaves in person.

What is transparent and what is not

It is easy to be disappointed here if you expect an interior as visible as in the transparent electronics of the late 1990s.

  • Controller: according to Sony, the high gloss and the transparent finish cover the back of the controller, while the middle section has a metallic finish. One outlet adds that the sticks and the lower part stay black, as on the standard model

  • PS5 covers: the official post calls them transparent and gives no further detail. The media describe them differently. One piece mentions a visible fan and the parts around it, another says only the upper halves are transparent

Our conclusion, drawn from comparing the descriptions rather than from a confirmed fact, is that the controller will show more of its interior than the covers do. If you want the transparent-electronics effect above all, the controller will be the most visible part of the set.

Why transparent hardware is back

The PlayStation team responsible for colour, material and finish says the collection answers fan enthusiasm for the return of transparent controllers. The inspiration is transparent electronics from the late 1990s.

From our own knowledge, not from the sources we read: the trend was not limited to Sony. One of its symbols was the Game Boy Color in transparent Atomic Purple. For many players it is part of their childhood memories, not just a fashion.

PlayStation is not starting from zero either. One piece recalls that the company recently experimented with transparent console covers in a version tied to Marvel's Wolverine.

Dates: pre-order and launch

  • 28 October 2026: the official announcement on the PlayStation Blog

  • 10 November 2026: pre-orders start at 10:00 local time, through the PlayStation store in the countries on Sony's list and at participating retailers

  • 4 February 2027: the launch begins, with the date and availability varying by country

Sony states that the exact launch date and the availability of the accessories may differ by country or region. As of today you have just over three months before the launch. If you were hoping for a Prism controller for Christmas, the collection will not arrive in time.

UK price: what Sony has said

Sony's recommended prices for the UK are £74.99 for the DualSense Prism controller and £64.99 for the PS5 Prism console cover. The official post also warns that actual prices and availability at retailers may differ.

For context, here are the prices on PlayStation Direct UK, read by us on 30 October 2026:

  • DualSense Midnight Black: £64.99

  • DualSense Icon Blue Special Edition: £74.99

  • DualSense Edge: £199.99

All the controllers on that page were shown as unavailable when we read it, and Prism was not yet listed, so treat these figures as a rough guide. The arithmetic is simple: the Prism controller costs the same as the Icon Blue special edition and £10 more than the standard Midnight Black. That Sony is pricing Prism like a special edition is our conclusion, not a fact. We have no comparison price for the covers, because the pages we read did not list a price for them.

On tax, the official post does not say whether the pound prices include it. We therefore cannot tell you whether £74.99 and £64.99 are the final amounts at the checkout.

Where to buy in the UK

The UK is on the list of countries where Sony opens pre-orders in its own store on 10 November 2026 at 10:00 local time. The others are France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Controllers are to be available globally, through the PlayStation store where it operates and through participating retailers, which the post does not name. Covers are to be sold only directly by PlayStation where possible, and elsewhere in limited quantities through selected retailers. That is our reading of the rules: if you are in the UK, buying from PlayStation Direct is the safest route to a cover.

One honest caveat. The Prism product page on PlayStation Direct will appear only on the day pre-orders open, 10 November 2026. Today the collection is not listed in the shop. You can still go to PlayStation Direct UK to see the controllers that are listed, but you will not find Prism there until the pre-order starts.

PS5 covers: what we know

The covers are outer panels that you swap on a console you already own. They come in the same colours as the controllers, so the whole set can look consistent.

Compatibility with a particular console model is a separate matter. The official post does not say which PS5 models the covers fit. One source mentions the PS5 Slim, but Sony has not confirmed this in the text we read. Before you buy a cover, check the product description to see whether it covers your version of the console.

Where the sources disagree

  • How transparent the covers are: the official post gives no detail and the media describe them differently. One piece mentions the upper halves, another a visible fan. Both may describe the same product from different angles, but there is no single confirmation

  • Black sticks on the controller: we know this from one outlet only, and the official post does not describe it

  • Whether these are the first transparent PS5 accessories: a social media post says so, while another source recalls the earlier transparent covers in the Wolverine version. We do not repeat the claim of being first

  • PlayStation Direct and retailers: some coverage speaks in general terms about sales through PlayStation Direct and retailers, while the official post separates pre-orders in the PlayStation store from the rules for controllers and covers. We follow Sony's post

  • Tax: the post does not say whether the pound prices include tax, so any claim about final prices is a guess

How reliable the sources are

  • High: the official PlayStation Blog post from 28 October 2026, read by us on 30 October 2026. It is the source of the colour names and descriptions, the dates, the list of countries, the sales rules for controllers and covers, and the caveat about differences between countries

  • Medium: the construction details of the covers and the controller, because media descriptions differ in emphasis and press photos do not settle everything

  • Low: social media posts, including the claim of being first

  • Conclusion: the view that the controller will show more of its interior than the covers, that a UK cover is easiest to get from PlayStation Direct, and whether it is worth waiting. That is our reasoning, not a measured fact

Is it worth waiting

This is our conclusion, not a fact, and it depends on why you want the controller.

In favour of waiting: Sony has already given UK prices, so there is little price risk at Sony's own store, and you can check on 10 November 2026 whether the product page matches the announcement. Against it: the covers are described only briefly, and compatibility with your console is unconfirmed. If you just want a different colour of controller, the DualSense Midnight Black and Icon Blue Special Edition on PlayStation Direct UK cost £64.99 and £74.99 when in stock, based on our reading of 30 October 2026.

What to do in your situation

  • You want a Prism controller: be ready for 10 November 2026 at 10:00. Check the PlayStation Direct page and the participating retailers, and compare delivery terms and returns before you pay

  • You want a cover: go to PlayStation first, since covers are not guaranteed elsewhere. Check that the listing names your PS5 model before you order

  • You want a new controller colour right now: the DualSense Midnight Black and Icon Blue Special Edition on PlayStation Direct UK are listed at £64.99 and £74.99, though they showed as unavailable when we looked

  • You care about the transparent effect most: start with the controller, because the covers appear to reveal less of the interior
