Sony has played the card fans of the mutant with the adamantium skeleton were waiting for. Alongside the release of Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games comes a limited set with a PS5 Digital Edition, a matching DualSense and a separate accessory line.

The set is called the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Marvel's Wolverine Battle Yellow Limited Edition Bundle, drawing on the Battle Reborn suit and the claws Insomniac designed for the game.

Instead of another variation on a white chassis, this is an aggressive yellow and black colourway with distinctive slashes. The detail that matters: those slashes are transparent, so a darker layer shows through the wounds in the shell. The same motif carries over to the controller.

The artwork comes from Jock, the Scottish comic artist Mark Simpson, who worked on the game's key art. He noted that he still draws traditionally, so pairing hand-inked work with modern hardware was a pleasure. Erika Peterson of Sony Interactive Entertainment described the goal as capturing the raw energy of the character.

On that count it lands. Limited hardware editions usually stop at a logo applied to an existing product, whereas here the colours, materials and damage all follow from the character.

What is in the box

The set includes the limited PS5 Digital Edition, a limited DualSense controller and a voucher for the full version of Marvel's Wolverine along with pre-order bonuses. Those bonuses cover early access to the Classic Brown suit and mirrored claws, one technique point and four PlayStation avatars. The code requires a PlayStation account and an internet connection.

One thing to note: this is the Digital Edition, with no drive. Sony has confirmed there are no disc-drive variants planned and no set based on the PS5 Pro. If you buy physical games or count on trading in used titles, factor that in before you click.

The yellow covers fit the slim model, the CFI-2000, with and without a drive, and a separate variant is planned for the PS5 Pro. Alongside them sits a second, far more restrained line: Adamantium Limited Edition. The metallic silver finish nods to the metal bonded to Logan's skeleton, and the transparent slashes stay.

Here is the catch. Adamantium covers are planned for the PS5 Pro only, and no complete console set exists in that version at all. If you want the silver configuration, you assemble it yourself from covers and a separately purchased DualSense.
