Where the name comes from

This is the heart of the model, because "Mambacurial" is not an arbitrary compound.

The name joins Kobe's nickname to the Mercurial line, Nike's best-known football boots. The colours come specifically from the Mercurial Vapor IX, worn in 2013 by Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar among others.

It is a rare case of a signature basketball shoe drawing directly on football. Nike underlines the link with "Mambacurial" lettering on the inside of the tongue, somewhere only the owner sees.

The connection runs deeper than it looks, too. Kobe Bryant spent his childhood in Italy and was a football fan, and his whole signature line owes the sport a great deal: his pursuit of lighter, lower-cut shoes came directly from watching footballers move unrestricted.

How it looks

The strongest element is the colour transition.

The upper fades from Red Plum at the heel to Pink Flash at the toe. That is rare in basketball and long-established in football boot design.
